Passion For Politics
I have a very big issue with a close friend of mine in recent weeks.
To be blunt, politics.
He has been swept up in this entirely new persona and notion of what our country, Australia, should be and what is wrong with it. Now don’t let me be mistaken here. I am fully supportive of having differing views and opinions, having concern over laws and legislation is fine as well. I also understand that in your early 20’s you will want to be more active and voice your concerns as well as become opinionated about everything in your life. But there is an imaginary line called fanaticism.
My friend has become absorbed with a libertarian idealism as of late. Joining and writing for their site, spouting political commentary over issues and other people, etc. Now my issue isn’t libertarianism specifically, I do disagree with many of its concepts and particularly a free/unregulated market in Australia though, but more towards his political approach.

Politics is far too familiar to religion when I see the broad picture. To devote yourself so deeply into any strain of thinking is, in my opinion, a backwards step for a growing mind. Why seek to limit and constrain the way you must view or act, simply because you were sold some sweet phrases. “A proper libertarian society would be Utopia”- His exact words to me. I made it a personal conviction to never trust a person selling perfection, because I’m not an idiot.
I don’t adhere to organized religion but I maintain a personal faith, I don’t centralize with one philosophy because I keep an open mind and I don’t follow one political movement because situations change and views evolve.

The thing that scares me most is that he has his girlfriend believing this stuff as well. All it takes for one chain of stupidity and misinterpretation to occur is for him to not understand, and for her to get half an explanation and for her friends to get the ‘cool’ concepts about it.
Uninformed, mindless adherence is the first step to a more ignorant generation.
Kids Need Magic
It’s undeniably true. Kids need magic like a Christian needs God or an Arts student needs coffee or a Pro Gamer needs energy drinks. Have you ever seen a child’s face when they discover something and have such inane assumption about what it does?
I think the main thing that I have lost touch with and miss about being young is that special sense of wonder that you have about life.
And no, I’m not talking about this piece of pop-culture trash-

I mean the real joy that comes from being captivated by something special or new. The kind of feeling most ‘adults’ can only get these days from downing a bottle of placebos and smoking a pack cigarettes. I truly believe it’s that bit of magic that a kid believes in that gives them the ability to spend endless moments playing with nothing more than sticks or rocks or a cardboard box.

I think we all need to get some of that magic back.
New Writing Project
Now that my Uni schtuff is out of the way, for the next 3 weeks or so, and the only thing I had to write on the side is the odd article/new piece for gamingsydney.com, I found a side, side, side project to work on. Yeah, my life is that busy and uninteresting that I decided to add in more work that might prove pointless.
Essentially I’m doing this because I’ve been reading/hearing a lot of folk tales, fantasy lore and I’m most likely taking children’s literary media next trimester at Uni, if I passed this trimester that is…..
Any who, look forward to future disjointed and irrelevant posts from me!
Everclear
Hmmm…….
Everclear are touring Australia around my birthday and playing at the same place Nic and I saw The Misfits. I believe I must find some money for tickets and a place to sleep. I have a thing for bands that tell great stories.

Q:I fail to see where 'weird but interesting' is anything but a compliment. Weirdness is generally a positive trait (normal-ness is a little boring at a point) and you do seem like an enormously interesting person based upon your blog. Plus, you are indeed quite attractive.
Alright, I admit it…. I don’t take compliments well!
Though that does not mean I don’t appreciate them, I’m just over analytical sometimes. As far as normal goes, I guess everything is relative to the situation :P I’ve never taken ‘weird but interesting’ as a bad thing, even when when it was meant that way.
Q:Cute is definitely meant as a compliment here! I'm surprised you haven't been told that before to be quite honest.
Well in a round about way I suppose. One of the more traditional meanings of cute is weird but interesting, so I have been called both of those at some point!
